The sampler

Through broke thread and pinpricks, I’ll finish my sampler
Deep in the dim nights with oil flickering low
All for a sampler so detailed and perfect that
When… my birthday comes people will want to step in
 
And I’ll be the belle of the ball
Bask in the envy of all
A princess in blue I’ll be called (all one breath)
In moonlight I’ll dance on the lawn 
 
I’ll prove them all wrong when I walk on my birthday
I… don’t need pity when I’ve got God right by my side
This is for him and he’s guiding the thread through
‘Cause God knows I’m losing the strength to do this alone

Made in a bad dream two hundred and twelve years ago
Don’t look too closely it’s not quite complete yet
