Clutches of anguish

There's fear, you can smell it in the air
or so it would seem
the tears they're falling every where
from broken dreams (don't lose hope)

they talk of better situations
but nothing is done
instead they make their accusations
then turn and run

the children they cry at their mother's feet
their fathers they beg for them on the streets
is there no tomorrow for them?

we've seen better days
we must push away
from the clutches of anguish

in the mouth of the selfish

as we fool ourselves, trying to pretend
that the unemployment line someday will end
